Peter Schmidt born 1829 split out from the I. K. Gottfried company around 1856 and made his own company in a very friendly competition. The old style spelling of Kjöbenhavn (Copenhagen) very likely dates this instrument to pre-1900

The instrument is about 60cm = 24"; long. Please note the way the 2nd branch follows the bell profile for a while. This trait may point towards the tubing and design actually being Danish. The stays and the valves clearly are of German or Czech origins

This instrument has a so-called Mainz rim. It is a semicircle-profile nickel silver ring, along which the non-rolled brass edge has been cut. This type of rim also was used on French horns made by the main Copenhagen maker I. K. Gottfried
